So we are off again. Back on the horse for more adventures in these sometimes boring lands. Seems that we have received more gold as a result of our captures and creature demise. With this new found weath, I should be able to request Trixie purchase some items that I would like to have as well as some that I need. These are items that should be easily found in Restov.
We make our way back to see our trixter fey friends with some ale and candy for their enjoyment. In return, they are eager to tell us of more items that we are searching for. As the day continued without as much as a leaf collected – a large slimy creature attacked us from out of the bush. The trail it left behind was not useful to me and I was not sure that the slim collection would go very well so, I decided to pass this up. As our scout attempted to led us to a lair we were not successful and turned around…again no fun items to collect.
As we continued on our journey, I continued to dream of the cauldrin back at the Kobalds mine. All of a sudden Walter got uneasy…I turned my attention to our trail and narrowly missed a very large trap that could have caused sudden death if not noticed. Whew, that was close. Over the next several days, many more traps were located none of them contained any useful specimens that could be used for my testing. Not even a small bit of flesh. Once again more plains – oh what fun. Wonder if I could sleep on this horse and not fall off. As we continued, I noticed some bushes along the side of the road…black berry I believe – Yes, I have needed these for quite some time now as they have not been easy to find since Vladimir and I have left our forest home. Sometimes, I miss the items that I could locate their however, these new lands might lead to bigger and better items for Walter and I to concoct.
Back to the forest, now I feel more at home however, it is still not the swamp. Moving forward, it appears as though we spotted something ahead. A dead body, oh I wonder how long he has been there? Dismounting from my ride, I offer a prayer and drawl a resting hex upon the forehead of this body that we discovered providing him peace in his journey. Meantime, Vladimir aquired a VERY nice axe that he could assist with part removals that I require. He did not really like assisting with this task in the beginning but I think that he is warming up to it now. Well, he does not complain as much.
After our adventure with the traps, there is the faint odor in the air. As we move closer, it seems as though I have smelled this in the past. Upon arrival at the next river, we discover this odor to be sulfer. Leaping from my horse, I gather a few rocks from the water before the group disappears from my site…just not enough time to get the new items in this strange land. As we continue along this river, someone points out two VERY large frogs. Now these are the biggest frogs that I have ever layed my eyes upon. Gee, to have a frog that big in my hut the others back home would not come to ask for any items again. Oh, I wonder if they are friendly? Seems that no one else wants to discover more about these creatures and they are just happy to leave them well enough alone. May a return trip to investigate is in order.
Moving forward, the land began to morph into a swampy forest area – finally! There should be some really good finds in this location. Oh no…as we move ahead, we locate a mangled Unicorn – its horn has been severed from its head. Ookami I am sure does not like this and she appears to be very disturbed over this encounter. Asking her if I could lay a hex upon the animals head to help is travel in peace, I thought that she might shoot me right there.
So it seems that we are going to camp in the swamp tonight. This should provide for a restful evening – one that I have not experienced in a long time. After my watch, it is off to sleep with Walter watching overhead. Sometime in the middle of the night, my wonderful dreams were ended with the screams of Vladimir. Seems that one of those swamp creatures that I have always heard tell of decided to pay us a visit – never had this happen before. Everyone was being attacked – Vladimir was trying his best to inflict damage without success…I knew that I must attempt to use the vial that Walter and I brewed before our trip. One sip was enough – just as soon as the solution was tasted, a large swarm of spiders began to erupt from my mouth. At once, they covered the creature. With this, Vladimir was able to hit the skull and it disappeared. As the skull was no longer apparent the swarm of spiders journeyed into the woods. Walter, I am so proud of him, his mixture worked. Put that in your bag of tricks Pandora…along with the badly needed swamp moss – there, one sack full should do it.
Once again, Vladimr appears to be the party bait. While crossing the river, a large Tatzlwyrm came out of nowhere. Bravely, our warriors fought off the beast. Then to our surprise – as if the first one did not surprise us enough, a second one appeared – this one died quicker than the first one. Down in a heap it fell. These worms are like nothing I have ever seen before…I MUST collect some items from them to experiment with. From these beasts, I was able to collect 2 tail pieces, both sets of front legs and Vladimir was kind enough to get a vial of its blood for me – now that is a true friend! Oh, I can not wait to dry those legs with the claws, ever since rushing from our home, I have not been able to find a good replacement for the stir I left behind. Perhaps, I will preserve two of them – yes…that is exactly my plan.
Our continued trip led us through the forest – yet again..no time to investigate for useful items. Hopefully if we aquire some land moving forward, it will include some wooded lands as well as some time for me to scout it out. Seems that our group has an uncany knack for finding traps. Vladimir happened upon this hidden one in then ground, what grace he displayed as he stummbled his way in. Inside, he faced a wolf or so it sounded – as I was not close enough to see into the trap. Within a few minutes, I heard a light thud and then Vladimir yelled out to us, I’m ok, I’m ok. WIth this being said, I thought it best to throw a rope to aid in his return from the trap. It appears that Vladimir also discovered the remains of a body in the trap with the wolf. Once the wolf was pulled from the trap, it was not a wolf at all instead it was some strange creature that I have never encountered. Concerned that further examination would awaken this animal, we decied it best to leave.
We ran upon an individual on the last leg of our journey…Garman or Garoom, something like that was his name. He was indeed a strange one. He was located in the ruins of two stone buildings that would make a nice outpost for us during our travels. After more discussions with Gar…whatever his name is, he likes to be left alone. Trixie seems to believe that if we help this Garoom, he may work with us and allow his location to be a stopping point for us. Leaving the strange man behind, we got a ump on another Giant Centipede. Much to my surprise, Vladimir did not become the pin cushion this encounter and we were able to kill it with great ease. After gathering items from the last giant centipede, I forgot to get mandibles and tail parts…this will not happen again. Upon removing these items (with great skill I might add) we continued to Oleg’s for a wonderful hot meal and stories of our big adventure.
As the days passed, I wondered when my requested items would arrive at Oleg’s. As the days continued, I started to ponder more about the large cauldron at the Kobalds lair. Currently, Trixie is trying to talk me out of aquiring it until we have a final location of where it will be located. However, I fear that waiting will result in the lose of the jewel. Perhaps I should consider a journey to speak with the Kobolds about my desire to remove the item from their locatation just incase the curse could be contained within. Hum…!!!
